Superintendent search proceeds

By Kentucky Association of School Administrators

The Nelson County Board of Education will be very busy over the next several months as the search for a new superintendent begins.

At a meeting of the board of education on Thursday, Nov. 2, the timeline of events leading to the appointment of a superintendent was discussed.  The board is working with the Kentucky Association of School Administrators and is taking guidance from Owens Saylor, a consultant from that organization.

Applications for superintendent will be accepted Jan. 2 through Feb. 26, 2018.  The established screening committee will send its recommendations to the board of education by March 16.  After interviews and background work is complete, the board hopes to name the new superintendent in April with a July 1 start date.

An online survey will open on Nov. 13 providing an opportunity for input on desired qualities for the superintendent.  Access to the survey will be available on the school district website, www.nelson.kyschools.us.

A community-wide forum is being held on Nov. 30 at Nelson County High School where the board will welcome public input and share the process and timeline used for selection.

Once selected, names of the finalists will be announced and the board is planning on each finalist visiting the district to meet and engage with the community.

Owens Saylor stated, “Nelson County has so many wonderful things to offer to anyone looking to lead a successful school district.  I’m convinced that the board will be presented with a top-notch slate of finalists from which to select the new leader.”

“The board has been very clear that this process is to be done right including seeking out as much input as possible from as many stakeholders as possible,” said Saylor.

Current Interim Superintendent Tom Brown will remain in the position until the end of the school year.
