Congratulations to Caleb Burkhead from Ms. Mayer's first grade class, last week's NRG award winner.
Caleb is a joy to get to work with every single day. He comes to school excited and ready dive into whatever we are doing that day with a positive attitude. Even when things get a little tough for him, he still tries his best. Often times I notice Caleb going and making friends with people who have no one to play with, helping to clean up messes that he didn't make, and cheering up a friend if they have been hurt or are having a bad day. Caleb is an amazing leader and role model to the rest of his classmates.
Congrats, Caleb!

Some third graders have even buddied up with first grade to help with writing. They have learned a lot and are also having a lot of fun!

Webster set to Lead The Academy Webster set to Lead the Academy

The Academy, an alternative school setting within Nelson County Schools, will be undergoing systematic changes in the 2019-2020 school year, all under the leadership of a new principal. Mark Webster, currently serving as the assistant principal at Thomas Nelson High School, has been named by Superintendent Wes Bradley as the next principal of The Academy.

“Over the past five years the vision for The Academy has continued to assume a more holistic approach for students. As we transition into the 2019-2020 school year the vision, coupling academic supports with intensive social-emotional and work based learning experiences will allow us to serve students more deeply. Mark is  a perfect fit to build the future of The Academy.” Bradley added, “Current Principal, Scott Rouse, strengthened the cultural foundation of The Academy and leaves so much for the future to build upon. Increased opportunities for students has led to stronger graduation rates and student retention.”

An educator since 2007, Mr. Webster has degrees from Morehead State University, The University of the Cumberlands and recently completed coursework at the University of Kentucky.

Henderson set to Lead Early Learning Center Henderson set to Lead Early Learning Center

Superintendent Wes Bradley announced that Teresa Henderson  has been named the principal for the Nelson County Early Learning Center for the 2019-2020 school year.

“Teresa’s leadership over the past two years as an Early Childhood Education Teacher at   Nelson County High School has been a model for the state,” Bradley commented. “Teresa is a visionary, with a powerful belief system that guides her leadership. We are confident Mrs. Henderson will build upon the strong foundation Mrs. Walker has built at the Nelson County Early Learning Center”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to imagine and create the Npossible at the Early Learning Center,” Henderson shared. “I am eager to bring my skills and passion for Early Childhood Education to the Early Learning Center and work with an amazing team of teachers, students, parents, and our community as a partner in education to ensure all children succeed”

An educator since 2009, Henderson’s early childhood journey started teaching infants through preschool children while working on her Family and Consumer Science degree at Madonna University.

Nesbitt Brings Experienced Leadership to Nelson Nesbitt Brings Experienced Leadership to Nelson

Barry Nesbitt has been named as  the Interim Principal at Nelson County High School by Superintendent Wes Bradley. Nesbitt brings 14 years of principal experience to Nelson County, and will officially begin the interim role July 1st.

Bradley praised the Nelson County Site Based Decision Making team for their sincerity and  commitment in the hiring process. “Over the past ten weeks the SBDM team of parents and teachers engaged in deep conversation about the future leader of NCHS. From the outset, the conversation focused on the “best fit” for the school to thrive and grow over the next year and well beyond. While we had a number of applicants for the position, the group felt that an interim leader was appropriate. Fortunately, Mr. Nesbitt is a perfect fit to lead NCHS in the year ahead. In the end, I was highly impressed with the SBDM team and their full commitment to the future of Nelson County. “

Concerning Nesbitt’s appointment as the interim Bradley added, “It was clear to everyone that Mr. Nesbitt’s leadership style, diverse experiences, and awareness of student needs were a good fit to lead NCHS during the coming year. Barry is a smart and seasoned leader of people. He understands the needs of a school community and we expect him to do a phenomenal job at NCHS. I am confident that he has the
